We were planning to come to the Napa/Sonoma area in mid-May. Will wineries and restaurants be open by then?

Wineries impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020
by: Joanna

That's a great question. As you know, wineries and restaurants have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic across the US. California is just starting the process to ease restrictions, but I think it is doubtful to expect all will be back to normal by mid-May.

I would suggest calling the wineries that you would like to visit to understand whether they will be open or not, and whether tours, wine tasting, etc is impacted by the pandemic shut-down.

Even if the wineries are not fully open, it is a beautiful time of year to visit the Sonoma / Napa area, and you can have some lovely drives through the countryside without too much tourist traffic.

Maybe plan on doing some research on lovely places to picnic in the areas you plan to visit. Many restaurants are still open for takeout, so you can pick up some lovely food and select a nice bottle of wine, and enjoy it outside in the countryside!
